Located next to Rwanda & Tanzania, Burundi's geography is well suited for the production of coffee. The mountainous regions provide the ideal climates and altitudes for the coffee cherry to slowly develop and ripen, leading to complex tasting coffees.

Coffee first arrived in Burundi in the 1920s, and production steadily increased until 1993, where the civil war caused a steep decline in production throughout the country. Though slowly recovering, production level is still not as high as it was in the past. Nonetheless, farmers are working towards improving the quality of the beans which fetch a higher price, improving their lives.

Coffee is grown all around the country, and our #dYScover collection this month features coffee from the region of Bujumbura, where coffee is grown at an average of of 1,100m above sea level, and enjoy an average temperature of 19°C.

This is a very sweet and bright tasting coffee, and we taste notes of sweet orange, apricot, and the refreshing taste of raspberry, in a light-medium body cup of coffee that has a slight bitter cocoa taste.

As our #dYScover beans are roasted specially, and separately from the rest of our offerings, we only have limited quantities per month! If you have ever thought or wondered about specialty coffee from Burundi, do make sure you give this a try soon!

There are so many different types of coffee grown in various regions of the world, with each region tasting very distinct from one another.

#dYScover, by Yong Seng Coffee, is our attempt at letting you experience high quality/specialty coffee from the various coffee-producing regions of the world. Read more about specialty coffee here!

Join us on this journey as we bring in coffee from different regions every month, as we explore the world of coffee together.

Testimonials

Tried the Arabica Blend and it changed my perspective of white coffee. Ditch your 3-in-1 and brew your own coffee with Yong Seng this CB period.

I ordered all the 6 choices (of Drip Bag Coffee) to try. Arrived yesterday and tried the Signature Blend #1 this morning. Clear indication of roasted & packing dates on each packet. Fresh and full of aroma, highly recommended. Tks!
