Traditional Kopi

Traditional Kopi (or Nanyang style coffee) involves the roasting of coffee beans with sugar and margarine. Coating the coffee beans with caramelised sugar as part of the roasting process not only gives the delicious and smooth mouthfeel we know and love, but it also causes the resulting brew to be as dark as night.

This was how coffee was roasted and drank by our parents and grandparents during the founding years of Singapore, and is what we all look forward to when we order our cup of Kopi at our favourite coffee stall!
